Our permeable paving

At Signature Resin Paving, we lay permeable paving as a resin bound surface — natural aggregate mixed with a clear resin binder and trowelled out as one continuous, porous finish. The voids between the stones are what let water through, rather than sending every drop toward the kerb.

We lay it over a properly prepared base rather than a sealed membrane, so water reaches the sub-base and the soil beneath instead of being collected and piped away. That's the outcome most councils and building surveyors are after when a stormwater management plan calls for permeable hardstand.

We install it on driveways, paths, courtyards and parking areas alike. The finish looks the same as any resin bound surface we lay — the permeability is built into the material we use, not bolted on as a separate drainage layer afterwards.

Where it works

01

Driveways & parking

Full-width vehicle areas where reducing hard runoff matters, whether that's a council requirement or your own preference.

02

Paths & courtyards

Pedestrian areas around planting and lawn, where water reaching the soil keeps garden beds healthier.

03

Compliance-driven sites

Projects where a stormwater management plan or planning condition specifies a minimum permeable area.

Key benefits

  • Reduces runoff reaching stormwater drains rather than shedding it all at the kerb
  • Laid over existing sound concrete, asphalt or a new base
  • No grates or channel drains needed on most residential applications
  • Seamless — no joints for weeds or silt to collect in
  • Suits council and planning conditions that specify permeable hardstand
  • Aggregate colour and blend chosen to suit the property, not a fixed palette

How permeability is achieved

We build permeability into the open-graded aggregate structure itself, not a separate drainage layer. The resin coats each stone individually rather than filling the gaps between them, which is what leaves the voids water passes through.

The base beneath still has to accept that water. On a sound, well-draining sub-base this is straightforward; on clay or poorly draining ground we may need to specify a permeable sub-base or agree where the water is meant to end up before we lay anything.

Depth and mix are set for the traffic the surface will carry — a driveway needs a different specification to a garden path, even though both use the same principle.

Common questions

How long does resin bound paving last?

Installed over a sound base with the correct depth and premium materials, resin bound paving is a 15-plus year surface. It doesn't lift like pavers or crack along joints like plain concrete, and the colour is the natural stone itself rather than a coating that wears off.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes. Our workmanship is backed by a 10-year warranty (terms and conditions apply), and it sits alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law rather than replacing them. The warranty details are set out in writing with your quote, so you know exactly what is covered before any work starts.

Can it be laid over my existing driveway or concrete?

Usually, yes — provided the existing concrete or asphalt is structurally sound, we lay directly over it with no demolition and no skip bins. We assess the surface before quoting, and if it isn't suitable we'll tell you honestly and price the preparation properly rather than laying over a problem.

How long does installation take?

Most residential projects are completed in days, not weeks. The surface takes light foot traffic within a day or two of laying and vehicles shortly after full cure — we confirm the exact programme and curing times in your quote so you can plan around it.

Is it slip resistant and safe for kids and pets?

Yes. The open aggregate texture gives genuine grip underfoot, wet or dry, and because water drains straight through there are no puddles to slip on and no sharp edges or loose stones. It's a surface families walk on barefoot every day.

Will the colour fade in the Australian sun?

We use UV-stable binder systems selected for Australian conditions, and the colour comes from natural stone aggregate rather than a pigment or paint — so the surface keeps its character year after year instead of bleaching or peeling.

How much maintenance does it need?

Very little. There's no sealing cycle and no joints for weeds to take hold in — routine sweeping and an occasional wash keeps it performing and looking as laid. It's one of the lowest-maintenance premium surfaces you can put down.

How much does it cost, and how do I get a price?

Every project is priced from the actual site — the area, the condition of the existing base and the finish you choose. Tell us what you're planning and we'll come back with a fixed written quote, not an estimate that moves later. The consultation costs nothing and there's no obligation.
