resurfacing

Our step resurfacing
Worn, slippery or dated steps let down an otherwise good entry — and they’re the one surface where a slip actually hurts. We resurface your existing concrete or paved steps with a seamless natural stone finish, turning them safe, crisp and considered in days, not weeks.
Because your existing steps keep doing the structural work, there’s no demolition, no skip bins and no rebuilding. The finish is trowelled by hand over what’s already there — following curved or angled treads exactly — with a slip-resistant exposed aggregate surface, a crisp nosing detail on every edge, and stone that can match your paths and porch so the whole entry reads as one considered finish.
With Signature Resin Paving you get the job done properly: premium resin systems, an honest assessment of every step before we quote, a fixed written price, and a 10-year workmanship warranty behind the finish. The people who quote your steps are the people who lay them.
Where it works
Entry steps
Front door and porch steps, usually the most visually prominent steps on the property.
Garden & level-change steps
Steps connecting different levels across a sloped garden or courtyard.
Pool & alfresco steps
Steps into a sunken alfresco or down to a pool surround, where slip resistance matters most.
Key benefits
- Slip-resistant exposed aggregate finish on both tread and nosing
- Resurfaces existing steps without structural demolition
- Follows curved, angled or irregular step geometry
- Matches or complements adjoining path or driveway paving
- Nosing edges detailed individually for durability and grip
- Seamless finish across multiple steps with no unit joints
Nosing and tread detail
We treat the nosing — the leading edge of each tread — as the single most important detail on a set of steps, because it's the part that wears fastest and matters most for grip. We give it its own attention rather than treating it as an afterthought to the tread.
Where visibility matters, a contrasting aggregate band along the nosing can make the step edge easier to see, which is worth considering on public-facing entries or where accessibility is a factor.
The riser — the vertical face of each step — can be finished in the same or a complementary material, so the whole flight reads as one considered surface rather than a tread treatment with an unfinished riser beneath it.

How we install it
Each step is assessed individually for structural soundness before we quote — spalling concrete, exposed reinforcement or a step that's come loose from its footing needs addressing before a new surface goes over it.
The existing tread is mechanically prepared so the new layer bonds properly, with particular attention to the nosing edge, which takes the most wear and the most preparation.
The mix is trowelled by hand tread by tread for a consistent finish across the flight, with cure time before foot traffic confirmed before we start.
Common questions
Why resurface steps instead of ripping them out and rebuilding?
Rebuilding steps means demolition, formwork, skip bins and weeks without a usable entry — usually to end up with plain grey concrete again. Resurfacing keeps the sound structure you already own and gives you a slip-resistant natural stone finish in days, at a fraction of the cost.
How long do resurfaced steps last, and are they under warranty?
Prepared and laid correctly, a resin bound finish is a 15-plus year surface, and our workmanship is backed by a 10-year warranty (terms and conditions apply) alongside your rights under Australian Consumer Law. The warranty terms come to you in writing with the quote.
Will the new surface be slippery when wet?
No — the exposed aggregate finish is chosen specifically for grip, wet or dry, and the nosing edge of each tread is detailed for extra slip resistance right where your foot lands. It’s a genuine safety upgrade on worn, painted or sealed concrete.
Can you resurface steps that are cracked or crumbling at the edges?
In most cases, yes — surface-level cracking and spalling is exactly what resurfacing solves well. If a step has a deeper structural problem, like exposed reinforcement or a loose footing, we’ll tell you honestly before quoting and price the repair as its own line rather than surfacing over a fault.
Can the steps match my path, porch or driveway?
Yes — we can run the same aggregate blend across the steps and the surfaces around them, so the entry reads as one considered finish rather than a set of steps that clearly came later. A contrasting nosing band is also available where step visibility matters.
How long does the work take?
Most flights are finished in days rather than weeks, with a short cure period before foot traffic. We confirm the exact programme in your quote, and where possible we stage the work so you keep access to your entry throughout.
